  • N35, 000 Wage Award-Workers are only Relieved Psychologically-Member NASU NEC

    • On 18/10/2023
    • In News

MiniThe N35, 000 wage award recently announced by the Federal Government  has only relieved workers in Nigeria psychologically and not economically.

This assertion was made by a member of the National Executive Council(NEC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU), who is also the branch chairman of the union at the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria, Comrade Kehinde Abiona.

''The announcement has calmed frayed  nerves, but the government is yet to pay as at now. The review of CONHESS/CONMESS effectual from June 1st has not been implemented. The government says it has no funds. However, because of the N35, 000 wage award, workers were relieved psychologically, but economically the difficulties and hardships persist. We are yet to be paid the wage award because it did not reflect in our September salaries, Comrade Abiona stated.

In his view, a former Oyo state chairman of the NASU, Comrade Fatoki Olusola-Cole, insisted that the wage award was far below the expectations of workers, saying,'' the government says we should sacrifice, but the cost of governance is extremely high. The government has pushed Nigerians into the dungeons of poverty.''

''N35, 000 is grossly inadequate to cater for the needs of workers. We are suffering, workers accepted the award, hoping that it will go higher,'' Comrade Olusola-Cole stressed.

  • Awake to the Reality of the the Times

DespeDesperation to continue the status quo- a period during which  Nigerians have over the years been deceived into perpetual political, economic  and social bondage-informs the insensitivity of the leadership[ at all levels of government.

To this  extent, confusion, disagreement and rancor now characterize the relationship between the leadership, their cronies, proteges and fronts.

Interestingly, millions of Nigerians have eventually woken up from their  deep slumber  and are now anxious to know what befell them.

  • It has been 100 days of torture and hardships for Nigerians-Comrade Emelieze

    • On 14/09/2023
    • In News

The 100 days of the present administration in Nigeria have been described as a period of torture, difficulties and hardships.

This is the submission of a former chairman of the Oyo state council of the Trade Union Congress(TUC) Comrade Andrew Emelieze. ''The first 100 days of this administration have been 100 days of torture, difficulties, hardships, sorrows and lamentations for Nigerians. The administration should come out with distinct and clear-cut policies that will take the country out of the deep pit it now finds itself.'' ''Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the so-called distribution of palliatives in the states because of the dubious ways these palliatives were shared among those who know themselves. Almost nothing got to the majority of impoverished Nigerians,'' Comrade Emelieze declared.

Leadership also involves taking reponsibility in a bad and hopeless situation.

    Ezra 9

1 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. 2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. 3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied. 4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice. 5 And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God, 6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. 7 Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. 8 And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. 9 For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

The successful distribution of economic support to poor Nigerians may be marred by the dormant status of the Local Government system in many states in the country.

This assertion was made by the chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union and Associated Institutions(NASU) University College Hospital(UCH) branch, Ibadan, Nigeria, Comarade Kehinde Abiona.

''Go to so many Local Government councils, they hardly have money to clear their bushy environment, talkless of money to renovate bad roads. The Ministry of local governments and chieftaincy affairs now think about local governments. The distribution of palliatives is supposed to be handled by the local governments, not the state governors. But what you have now is that the state governors will buy and distribute them from household to household. Let the local governments be in charge of distribution, not the other way round. Let the governors hand over the responsibilities to the local governments to distribute. A decentralized system of distribution would be effective, instead of a centralized system. It is problematic.

The insinuation is that those-in-charge lack the political will to address the ugly turmoil. Perhaps.

The population of Nigerians infected with Haemophilia is not known.

This assertion was made on Monday by a Professor of Haemotlogy and Consultant Haemotologist, University of Benin(UNIBEN) and University of Benin Teaching Hospital(UBTH), Benin, Edo state, Prof. Omolade Awodu at the valedictory lecture for Prof. Wuraola Adebola Sokunbi./

''The population of Nigerians with haemophilia is not yet known. Haemophilia is not the disease of the white. 93 per cent of Nigerians infected are not diagnosed. That we do not know the number of Nigerians infected with the disease shows that very few men and women are interested in the disease. We have inadequate knowledge. We are still very ignorant of the disease in Nigeria. With 93 per cent of patients undiagnosed in Nigeria, the reality is that many of them will die young. There should be proper diagnosis and management,'' Prof. Awodu stated.
